ExCeL London or Exhibition Centre London where the acronym is derived is a mammoth 100-acre purpose built Exhibition centre built on the northern quay of the Royal Victoria Docks. The Centre was first built by Sir Robert McAlpine and first opened on the turn of the millennium, during much redevelopment of South East London such as the ‘Millennium dome’ now the O2.
In 2008 the centre was acquired by the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) and 2 years later went though an extensive expansion to create the ICC or the International Convention centre London.
ExCeL London is situated in the shadow of London’s financial district Canary Wharf, and a DLR ride away from London City Airport allowing many European companies to visit ExCeL in a day and return to major European cities.
Unlike other Exhibition venues in London ExCeL isn’t shrouded in history, however it has been designed to house a sheer colossal amount of people, and stands and can be partitioned for enormous events like ICE: Totally Gaming to more intimate shows like May Design Series.
It is the only Exhibition centre that spans two train stations, custom house at one end and prince regent at the other. It also being located at the edge of the Docks has the ability to house ships, which are also utiles at shows like Oceanology, DSEI & London Boat Show. It has 3700 car parking spaces, 30 bars and 6 hotels. It is the quintessential 21st century events complex.
